1.) PKLYN
Location: Gowanus, Brooklyn
# of Courts: 5 indoor courts
Hours of Operation: 7am-10pm every day
Description: PKLYN is a brand spanking new indoor pickleball facility in Gowanus, just a short walk from the Carroll St F/G. It’s also got a full bar, sitting area, and food. What more could you need. This is the perfect place to reserve a court with friends, play competitively in their tournaments, or take a lesson. Court rentals for non-members are $110/hr, but the freedom and availability is clutch.
They also host open social drop-in times, where you can dink with new folks for $25. It’s a beautiful facility, check them out!
House Advice: PKLYN is great when you have a group, and don’t want to risk big crowds at public courts. We recommend it for work trips, tournaments, and lessons.
2.) Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 2
Location: Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn
# of Courts: 4 covered outdoor courts
Hours of Operation: 8am-9pm every day
Description: Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of our favorite places in the city. Located right on the water with gorgeous views of downtown manhattan, and within walking distance of the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, DUMBO, and downtown Brooklyn - there’s little more you could ask for from these pickleball courts.
House Advice: Play on these public courts is first come first serve, so show up early. That said, the folks are friendly and the wait is never too long.
3.) McCarren Park Pickleball Lot
Location: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
# of Courts: 16 outdoor courts
Hours of Operation: Who knows!?
Description: This pickleball lot is a bit rough & tumble. The asphalt isn’t our favorite surface, and you’ll have to bring your own net, but the vibes are great on a sunny day, and there is a ton of space to play. It’s a short walk from the Nassau G or the Bedford L.
House Advice: Don’t be afraid to make new friends, McCarren is the hotspot for the sporty Williamsburg crowd, and they’re always looking for new challengers. And when you’re done you can have a picnic in the park, or grab a beer at the McCarren Parkhouse.
4.) Kaiser Park
Location: Coney Island
# of Courts: 4 Outdoor Courts
Hours of Operation: 6am -1am
Description: All the perks of pickle and the beach for your summer fun. These free courts are permanent, open to the public, and are adjacent to beautiful fields, bbq areas, a running track, public restrooms and of course… Coney Island.
House Advice: Okay the best thing about this park is its proximity to Coney Island. We say make a day out of it. Play some pickle in the morning, head to the Boardwalk, take in some sun on the beach, check out some rides (if you dare), have a Nathan’s dog (if you dare), and then grab a late lunch/early dinner in Brighton Beach.
5.) Game Over NYC: Brooklyn Stuy Dome
Location: Bed Stuy
# of Courts: 3 indoor courts
Hours of Operation: 7am-11pm
Description: Stuy Dome is a spacious indoor facility that caters to basketball, volleyball, and most importantly… pickleball. It’s perfect for rainy days and competition. With courts and nets included, it’s an ideal spot to book a few games or host a full-blown pickleball tournament with friends. Shout out to Brandon (@bmartpb) running things over there.
House Advice: Court rentals are needed at Stuy Dome, and they can be pricy ($125/hour), so we recommend splitting that among friends. Or join one of NYC Pickleball’s leagues or Open Plays to take advantage of these courts at a lower rental cost, and meet some new pickle friends. They host events all week for different skill levels and age groups.
