Best Outdoor Pickleball Courts In Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is a great place to play pickleball outdoors. The nice climate, at least in spring and summer, is very mild so it never gets unbearably hot like in pickleball Mecca which is Florida.

1. Monroeville Community Park West

Monroeville Community Park West is located on the east side of Pittsburgh, in the Monroeville area. 

This is a humongous community park, with a lot of amenities. Some of them are a baseball field, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a soccer field, a volleyball court, and, best of all, 8 outdoor pickleball courts.

The pickleball courts are divided into six dedicated courts with permanent lines and nets, two courts with permanent lines overlaid over the basketball court, without nets that you are going to have to provide. 

You cannot reserve the courts but the courts are free and plentiful, so you will always have a spot to play with your friends and family.

2. North Park Tennis Courts

North Park Tennis Courts are located on the northside of Pittsburgh, in Hampton, McCandless, and Pine townships, North Park. This is a huge 3,094-acre park in the city of Pittsburgh that offers many amenities. 

North Park features a 65-acre lake rich in fish and water activities such as kayaking and fishing. 

A nature center, shelters, off-leash areas, trails, etc… All these are included as additional amenities to this wonderful park.

There are plenty of sports amenities too, such as a golf course, pool, ice rink, ballfields, deck hockey rink, basketball, tennis, and best of all – pickleball. 

Eight dedicated pickleball courts to be more precise! These are well-maintained courts, cared for by the local community and government that have permanent lines and nets and they are definitely one of the best quality outdoor courts that we have on this list.

Oh and did I mention that all this is free? Courtesy of the local government, these courts in the park are free. So come right down to North Park where you can get your pickleball game on and when you get tired, check out so many amenities that this park has to offer.

3. Mt. Lebanon Park

Mt. Lebanon Park is located in the Cedarhurst area, in the southwest part of Pittsburgh. This is a public park that offers interesting amenities curated by and for local communities. 

That’s why here you can find basketball courts, bocce courts, indoor ice rinks, platform tennis, a kids' playground, sand volleyball, a swimming pool, and a wonderful tennis center.

In the tennis center, you can also find six outdoor pickleball courts with permanent lines, but without nets. So, make sure to bring yours. 

The reservation of the courts is not available, and to play pickleball here you will have to pay a small one-time fee.

South Park Tennis Courts are located in the South Park Township area of Pittsburgh. 

Activities offered in the park include picnic areas, shelters, playgrounds, sled riding areas, concert area, horseback riding, walking and biking trails, a very large swimming pool with wave-action, and a large dog park.

When it comes to sports activities, there are many interesting amenities that are not usually found in other parks of this size. We’re talkin’ ice skating rinks, tennis courts, a championship golf course, and ballfields.

But back to the main topic – are there pickleball courts? Of course, there are six pickleball courts with permanent lines and nets on asphalt surfaces. These are well-maintained courts by the local government and the best thing about these courts is that they are free!

Best Indoor Pickleball Courts In Pittsburgh

Pennsylvania can get rough in colder seasons of the year but that doesn’t mean that pickleball fun is going to stop with rain or snow. 

That is because there are many wonderful indoor courts featured in local sports clubs and community neighborhood centers. 

Let’s check them out together!

1. Greentree SportsPlex

Greentree SportsPlex is located in the Mansfield area close to its avenue, in the downtown area of Pittsburgh. This is truly everything you would want from a sports center.

There is so much you can do and play in this center. You have indoor turf fields for pickup soccer and indoor football, basketball courts, a hitting baseball/softball tunnel for that swing practice, a fitness center, and a dance/yoga studio.

By becoming a member of this fitness center you can join sports leagues of many sports, participate in summer camps organized by the center, join the martial arts studio and when you get beat up in the studio, see a chiropractor too!

Renting space for all these sports by the hour, you can make your own sports classes if you are experienced enough.

When you get hungry you should certainly check out and grab a snack from the local Gatorade café included in the facility.

Naturally, for these high-class sports centers, pickleball is also included in the facility. There are eight pickleball courts with permanent lines and portable nets available, provided by the facility. 

If you are a novice player or just want to get your game to a bigger level you can find a personal trainer here, always willing to show you tips and tricks to better up your pickleball game.

All this is available if you become a member, which I personally think is worth it, given how many things you can do and play in this sports center!

2. Glen Creek Tennis Club

Glen Creek Tennis Club is located in the South Park area of Pittsburgh. It offers six indoor courts with hard surfaces and four outdoor courts with clay surfaces. These courts have permanent lines but nets are not provided in the facility so make sure to provide your own. 

They also offer a comprehensive range of programs for members and non-members of all ages and skill levels, so make sure to come down, meet some interesting people in the process of developing your skills, and in the end, join the local pickleball community.

Also, this club has an equipment shop integrated within the facility so if you forget your net, or any of the other gear for a matter of fact, you can buy them here for affordable prices.

3. David L. Lawrence Convention Center

David L. Lawrence Convention Center is located in the heart of the Pittsburgh downtown area. This convention center hosts many events, but the most interesting ones are surely pickleball meet-ups and tournaments. 

At these conventions, they set up thirty indoor pickleball courts with permanent lines that are drawn on the concrete under the carpet that usually covers the center.
